Shintaro Mochizuki became the first Japanese player to win a Grand Slam boys' singles title at Wimbledon in 2019 and briefly reached junior No. 1. He then beat Hugo Gaston in straight sets for his first New York main-draw victory before No. 8 seed Alex de Minaur won their second-round match 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.
