Timofey Skatov blends a Russian tennis education with Spanish control
Timofey Skatov was born in Kazakhstan, grew up in Russia and reached junior world No. 1 before moving to Valencia at 17 to develop under Jose Altur. He describes the result as a blend: the freedom and variety learned in Russia, then clearer tactical rules and control from Spain. Skatov broke into the Top 200 in 2022, won his first Challenger title in Parma that year and added Augsburg in 2024. He has also beaten Francisco Cerundolo, Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Tallon Griekspoor on clay, with the Griekspoor victory carrying him to his first ATP quarterfinal in Bastad.
