Learner Tien: a two-title American left-hander already established in the top 20
Learner Tien moved from teenage prospect to top-20 player in less than two seasons. The Irvine left-hander reached the 2025 Australian Open fourth round as a qualifier after defeating Daniil Medvedev in a five-set match that ended at 2:54 a.m. He later won his first ATP title in Metz and the Next Gen ATP Finals. Tien beat Medvedev again en route to his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the 2026 Australian Open, then collected a second tour title on Geneva clay and reached a career-high inside the top 20. His compact backhand and hard-court preference anchor an unusually mature counterpunching game.
