Vilius Gaubas: a Lithuanian Challenger champion developed on Spanish clay
Vilius Gaubas began tennis in Siauliai with a small plastic racquet and later moved his development to Spain, where former world No. 23 Guillermo Garcia-Lopez became his coach. The Lithuanian won his first Challenger title in Cordenons in 2024, then added Menorca and Lisbon in 2025. He qualified for his first ATP Tour main draw at Rome in 2025, beat Damir Dzumhur and upset Denis Shapovalov to become the first Lithuanian to reach an ATP Masters 1000 third round. A former Top 20 junior, Gaubas has built his rise around clay-court repetition while steadily adding results on quicker surfaces.

Vilius Gaubas US Open history: Gasquet farewell win and a 2024 qualifying final
Gaubas made his Grand Slam qualifying debut at the 2024 US Open and came within one win of the main draw. He beat Daniel Rincon in Round 1, then defeated former semifinalist Richard Gasquet 6-2, 6-4 in the Frenchman's final New York match.
