Rei Sakamoto carried junior No. 1 form into three Challenger trophies
Rei Sakamoto became the first Japanese player to win an Australian Open junior singles title when he beat Jan Kumstat 3-6, 7-6(2), 7-5 in 2024. He rose to junior No. 1 and partnered Maxim Mrva for the US Open boys' doubles crown later that year. His professional transition was just as fast: Challenger titles in Yokkaichi, Cary and Yokohama made him the first Japanese teenager to win three at that level.
