Player profile

Raul Brancaccio carried a third Challenger title into the US Open

Raul Brancaccio reached a career-high No. 121 in February 2023 after winning the Noumea Challenger on hard court, where he recovered from a set down to beat Laurent Lokoli in the final. The Italian, who has long trained and lived in Spain, added a third Challenger trophy at Menorca in April 2026. He entered that event as an alternate, defeated second seed Sebastian Ofner and then beat Alex Martinez 6-1, 6-4 for the title. His first ATP main-draw appearance came as a qualifier at Parma in 2021.

US Open story

Raul Brancaccio's 2026 US Open debut ends against Thiago Seyboth Wild

Brancaccio had not previously appeared at the US Open. His first New York match came in the opening round of 2026 men's qualifying against Brazil's Thiago Seyboth Wild. Seyboth Wild won 6-2, 6-1, and the completed result ends Brancaccio's singles campaign before the second qualifying round. There is no main-draw appearance to attach to this year. The loss arrived four months after Brancaccio's Menorca Challenger title, but he could not transfer that title-week form into his first match on the faster New York courts.

What to watch

Raul Brancaccio's close-baseline style met a difficult first-ball matchup

Brancaccio has described himself as highly aggressive and positioned very close to the baseline. He prefers faster courts because taking the ball early increases his tempo, while on clay he uses more rotation on the forehand. That self-description makes the Seyboth Wild score revealing: a 6-2, 6-1 loss suggests he never established the early-strike pattern often enough to make either set close. His 2026 Menorca title proved he could navigate pressure over a full Challenger week; in New York, the opening opponent allowed no time to build a similar run.
