Mark Lajal grew up around motorsport: his father raced motocross and his grandfather drove rally cars. Tennis took over after his mother placed him in the sport while his father was away, and the Estonian later left home at 15 to train at the Mouratoglou Academy. Lajal won his first Challenger title in Little Rock in 2023, then qualified for Wimbledon in 2024 and drew defending champion Carlos Alcaraz on Centre Court. He reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 145 in 2025.
