Laura Samson: a junior No. 1 who reached a WTA semifinal at sixteen
Laura Samson arrived on the WTA Tour with an exceptional home debut. The Czech wildcard beat Tara Wurth, then upset No. 38 Katerina Siniakova and saved repeated pressure against Oksana Selekhmeteva to reach the 2024 Prague semifinals. At sixteen, she became the youngest WTA semifinalist since Coco Gauff in 2019 and the first 2008-born player to win a tour main-draw match. Samson had already reached junior No. 1, finished runner-up at 2024 Roland Garros girls' singles and made the 2023 US Open girls' semifinals. Her early professional foundation included three W15 clay titles in 2024.
