Harri Heliovaara: an engineer's return to become a major doubles champion
Harri Heliovaara left professional tennis in 2013, completed an industrial engineering degree and worked at Helsinki Airport before returning in 2017. That second career became far larger than the first. The Finn rose from outside the doubles elite to world No. 3, winning Wimbledon in 2024 and the Australian Open in 2025 with Henry Patten. He and Patten saved three championship points in the Wimbledon final, making Heliovaara Finland's first men's doubles champion there. His analytical approach, backhand preference and hard-court comfort fit a player who documents his career in detail on his own blog.
