Francesco Maestrelli: a tall backhand-first player moving beyond Challengers
Francesco Maestrelli began tennis at four because he wanted to beat his sister, then developed into a 1.96-metre right-hander whose favorite shot is the backhand. He identifies hard court as his preferred surface and New York as his favorite tour city, making his US Open qualifying appearances a natural measuring point. Maestrelli first played an ATP main draw as a 2022 Florence wild card and built most of his ranking through Challenger events. After nine unsuccessful major qualifying attempts, he qualified for the 2026 Australian Open to make his Grand Slam main-draw debut.
