Zdenek Kolar built a five-title Challenger career around clay-court persistence
Zdenek Kolar won three Challenger titles in 2021, at Oeiras, Iasi and Szczecin, before finally converting his seventeenth Grand Slam qualifying attempt at Roland Garros in 2022. He defeated Lucas Pouille for his first tour-level win and took a set from 2021 finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas in round two, a run that helped him reach a career-high No. 111. Kolar later won a home Challenger in Ostrava in 2023 and added a fifth trophy in Sofia in 2025 without dropping a set. The Czech player's resume is therefore shaped by repeated clay events, delayed major access and a capacity to rebuild after ranking setbacks.
