Player profile
Jerome Kym: a 1.98-metre Swiss server with a major third-round breakthrough
Jerome Kym was already representing Switzerland in Davis Cup at fifteen, winning a doubles match with Henri Laaksonen in 2019. He later reached junior No. 5 and the 2021 US Open boys' semifinals. After returning from a five-month absence, Kym won his first professional title at M25 Trento in 2023. His next leap came in 2024 with Challenger titles in Prostejov and Zug, the first as a No. 444-ranked qualifier and the second on home soil after saving seven match points during the week. He reached a career-high No. 123 in 2025.

US Open story
Jerome Kym US Open history: qualifying breakthrough and third round in 2025
Kym reached the final qualifying round in 2024, losing to Quentin Halys in three sets. One year later he completed the route without dropping a set, beat Ethan Quinn for his first Grand Slam win and upset No. 30 seed Brandon Nakashima in a fifth-set tiebreak. Taylor Fritz ended Kym's run in round three, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. The result gave Kym a 2-1 senior US Open record and matched his earlier junior affinity for New York. Entering 2026, the third round is both his major best and the standard to improve.
What to watch
Jerome Kym fan watch: serve-plus-one power from a 1.98-metre frame
Kym's height creates a high serving contact, but his own description of the Zug breakthrough emphasized work on the serve plus one rather than the delivery alone. Watch where the next forehand lands. A deep first strike lets him remain inside the baseline and use reach to close space; a rushed miss gives away the advantage created by the serve. His Nakashima victory also showed five-set resilience and tiebreak nerve. On return, a compact block is enough to begin the point because his wingspan can cover the next angle without an exaggerated first swing.
