Harmony Tan: touch, variation and a career-defining Wimbledon upset
Harmony Tan began tennis at four with her brother and developed a game built on touch and variation rather than uniform pace. The Paris-born Frenchwoman reached a career-high No. 90 and a first WTA semifinal in Bogotá in 2021. Her best-known run came at Wimbledon in 2022: on her tournament debut she defeated Serena Williams 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 after three hours and eleven minutes, then reached the fourth round. Slices, changes of height and unexpected angles were central to that upset and remain the clearest description of her on-court identity.
