Federico Coria: clay-court craft and a career built through persistence
Federico Coria grew up in Rosario hitting against a wall and later moved to Buenos Aires at 15 to pursue professional tennis. His older brother Guillermo, a former world No. 3 and Roland Garros finalist, was both an idol and an unavoidable reference point, but Federico built his own tour record. He reached a career-high No. 49 in 2023 after establishing himself through Challenger success and clay-court results. Coria names the backhand as his favorite shot and clay as his preferred surface, details that frame the adaptation required on New York hard courts.
