Alexandra Eala's breakthrough and Philippine firsts
Alexandra Eala's 2025 Miami run changed the scale of her career. As a No. 140 wild card, the left-hander defeated major champions Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek to reach the semifinals. WTA records identify her as the first player from the Philippines to make a WTA 1000 semifinal and enter the Top 100. She then reached the Eastbourne final and won a WTA 125 title in Guadalajara. By the 2026 US Open profile she was No. 18, turning a single breakthrough fortnight into sustained ranking progress rather than a one-event curiosity.
